Duty selection

Specify by Duty: Bar Size, Spacing, Grade

A stainless floor is chosen with three numbers — bearing bar section, bar spacing and grade — matched to the duty the floor actually sees, not to a catalog default. Here are the starting points we quote from.

Floor duty Bearing bar (mm) Bar spacing (mm) Grade Spec notes
Pedestrian access25×3 to 32×530 / 40SS304Plain or serrated bars; standard open mesh, foot traffic only
Wet-process line32×5 to 40×530 / 40SS304 or SS316Closer centers keep heels and debris out; spills drop straight through
Heavy washdown40×5 to 60×530 / 40SS316Deeper bars for cart traffic; 60 mm centers where through-flow matters most

Deeper bars carry more load across wider supports; closer centers keep the mesh heel-proof. Full range runs 20×3 mm to 100×8 mm — we confirm the final section against your drawings, and the review is free inside the 24-hour quote.

Between two duties? Send your drawings — we will spec it for the duty your floor actually sees.

Cleanability & drainage

Cleanability Is a Specification Decision

MTC verified against heat number at goods-in

1 · Certified steel at goods-in

Every SS304 / SS316 heat is checked against its mill test certificate before a bar is cut — the first of five QC stages — so the floor you specify is the grade you receive.

cut to size, banded edge closes the mesh

2 · No coating to chip

Stainless needs no paint or galvanizing that can chip into a hygiene zone. Panels arrive cut and banded to your drawings, plain or serrated, with closed cut edges that leave no open bar ends.

welded to frame, water drains through the mesh

3 · Welded in, drained through

Panels weld or clamp directly to support frames — no loose plates to trap soil — and the open mesh lets wash water fall into the channel below. Passivation is available on request; ask in your quote.

Drainage integration in one line: set bearing bars across the line of flow so spills drop straight into the channel or gully, and band every cut edge that meets a drain box. Matching covers are on the trench drain covers page.

Why stainless floors

Why Specifiers Choose Stainless Floor Grating

Corrosion resistance by grade, not by coating

SS304 for routine wet floors and daily washdown; SS316 where chlorides and cleaning chemicals are constant. The protection is in the steel — nothing to reapply after a hard season of washing.

Custom sections from small MOQ

Any bar from 20×3 mm to 100×8 mm at 30 / 40 / 60 mm centers, cut and banded to your drawings. Small trial orders are welcome — grade options included.

Mill certs with every batch

Heat numbers are traceable from goods-in to final inspection, and certificates can be previewed before you commit the order — ask in your quote.

Steel Grating Material Comparison

Not every wet floor needs stainless. Pick the row that matches your environment — this page covers the two stainless rows.

Material Corrosion behavior Typical environments Relative cost Documentation
Q235B carbon steel Needs a protective coating Dry indoor platforms, warehouses Lowest MTC EN 10204 3.1
Hot-dip galvanized Q235B Zinc coating, ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 Outdoor walkways, municipal trench Low MTC + coating thickness report
SS304 stainless Rust-resistant in the alloy, no coating to chip Food processing, daily washdown, general wet floors Higher MTC EN 10204 3.1
SS316 stainless Adds molybdenum for chloride duty Marine, brine, chemical washdown Highest MTC EN 10204 3.1

Environment-first thinking instead of spec-first? The stainless steel floor grating page picks the material by the environment it must survive.

Applications

Duty-Matched Stainless Floor Applications

Each duty class below maps straight back to a row in the table above — the bar size, spacing and grade travel together.

Food & beverage wet floors

SS304 as standard; no coating that can chip into the process zone; wash water drains through the mesh.

Chemical & wet-process areas

SS316 for constant chlorides and aggressive cleaning chemicals; closer centers keep the mesh heel-proof.

Washdown platforms & mezzanines

Deeper 40×5 to 60×5 mm bars carry cart traffic; panels weld to the frame so nothing works loose under hosing.

Drainage & trench floors

Bearing bars across the flow line; cut-outs banded around drain boxes. See trench drain covers.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Which stainless grade should I specify for my floor — SS304 or SS316?

SS304 handles routine wet floors and daily washdown in food and general processing. SS316 adds molybdenum for constant chlorides — salt spray, brine and aggressive cleaning chemicals. Both grades are traceable: we supply mill test certificates (EN 10204 Type 3.1) with every shipment.

What bar size and spacing suit pedestrian, wet-process and washdown floors?

Pedestrian access floors typically run 25×3 to 32×5 mm bearing bars at 30 / 40 mm centers. Wet-process floors move to 32×5 to 40×5 mm, and heavy washdown zones with cart traffic specify 40×5 to 60×5 mm. We confirm the final section against your drawings — review is free inside the 24-hour quote.

How fast can I get samples and production?

Samples ship in 5–7 working days and mass production runs 15–25 working days after drawing confirmation. FOB Tianjin is standard, with EXW or CIF negotiable, and small trial orders are welcome.
