Match the Grade to the Environment
316 stainless steel grating earns its place wherever chlorides are present — sea air, brine, de-icing salt, pool disinfectants, chloride-bearing chemicals. It is the molybdenum-bearing grade of the stainless line, which is why it holds its surface in salt service where SS 304 grating gradually roughens. Read your site in the first column, then specify the grade in the second:
| Service environment | Grade to specify | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Dry indoor platforms, warehouse mezzanines | Galvanized carbon steel | No chlorides and no hygiene rules — stainless would be over-spec; a Q235B core with a zinc coating covers damp corners. |
| Food processing, fresh-water washdown, dairies | SS304 | General corrosion duty without chlorides — 304 is the economical stainless for routine wet cleaning. |
| Pool, spa and aquatic wet areas | SS316 This grade | Chlorinated water and dosing chemicals work on 304 season after season; 316 keeps washing down clean. |
| Coastal platforms, docks, waterfront walkways | SS316 This grade | Permanent airborne salt spray — the classic duty for the molybdenum-bearing grade. |
| Chemical plants, plating lines, brine circuits | SS316 This grade | Chloride-bearing and acidic spills pit lesser grades; 316 is the standard answer in this service. |
| Full salt-water immersion, offshore service | SS316 This grade | Continuous contact with sea water — tell us the zone and we will size bearing bars for immersion duty. |
Rule of thumb: chlorides are what separate 316 from 304. Still unsure? Send your drawings — we will spec it inside the 24-hour quote.
Material evidence
Mill Test Certificates (EN 10204 Type 3.1)
We provide mill test certificates (EN 10204 Type 3.1) with every shipment — one certificate per heat, so the 316 called out on your drawing is the 316 that arrives, provable back to the melt.
One certificate per heat
SS316 arrives from the mill in heats, and each heat carries its own certificate. Incoming material is booked heat by heat — the first stage of our five-stage QC plan — before any bar is cut.
What your MTC states
Grade SS316, the heat number, and the mill's reported chemical and mechanical values — exactly the evidence package your marine or chemical client's inspector will ask to see.
Previewed before dispatch
Certificate copies can be previewed before shipment; the order then travels with a Declaration of Conformity and the factory inspection report. Documents & reports →
Why SS316
Why Buyers Specify Our 316 Stainless Steel Grating
Rust-resistant in salt service
Docks that never dry, coastal platforms in constant spray, pool plant rooms dosed with chlorine — 316 is the chloride-duty grade, corrosion-resistant with no coating to scratch off or recoat.
Made to spec, any size, small MOQ
316 stainless steel bar grating cut and banded to your drawings — panels up to 1.25 m wide and 6 m long, plain or serrated bars. Trial orders start small, so one walkway can prove the grade before you commit a platform.
Factory-direct, no middlemen
One workshop, one invoice, ~400 km to Tianjin Port — no trading-company margin in between. Itemized quote FOB Tianjin, EXW or CIF negotiable, and mill test certificates (EN 10204 Type 3.1) on every batch.

Where 316 Grating Pays for Itself
316 sits at the top of the material cost column — and at the bottom of the ownership column wherever salt or chemicals reach the floor. A corroded panel has to be reordered, re-shipped and re-fitted; a 316 panel is specified once. Four duties where that trade is worth making:
Coastal platforms & piers
Access walkways within sight of the water, where salt spray settles on every surface and coatings fail first.
Chemical & petrochemical plants
Plating lines, brine circuits and bund areas where chloride-bearing and acidic fluids reach the floor.
Pool, spa & aquatic wet areas
Poolside floors, plant rooms and drainage in permanent contact with chlorinated water and cleaning chemicals.
Waterfront & salt-handling sites
Gangway landings, salt-storage aprons and desalination-plant walkways in full marine exposure year-round.

Both constructions, one grade
316 stainless steel bar grating runs through the same two constructions as the rest of the line — pick the construction for load and mesh, then lock the grade:
- Welded construction — every intersection forged under pressure, for heavy dock and platform loads at wide spans
- Press-locked construction — weld-free, flat close mesh for barefoot and heel traffic around pools
- Matching 316 stair treads and drainage covers produced from the same drawings

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Why choose 316 stainless steel grating over 304?
316 is a molybdenum-bearing grade, which is what points it at chloride service — sea air, salt water, brine, pool disinfectants and many chemical spills. 304 covers general corrosion duty such as food washdown and fresh-water exposure. Coastal sites, de-icing salt zones and chemical plants are where 316 is the safer specification.
Do 316 stainless steel grating shipments include mill test certificates?
Yes. We provide mill test certificates (EN 10204 Type 3.1) with every shipment, issued per heat, stating the grade, the heat number and the mill's reported chemical and mechanical values. Certificate copies can be previewed before dispatch, and every order also travels with a Declaration of Conformity and the factory inspection report.
What sizes can 316 stainless steel bar grating be made in?
316 stainless steel bar grating follows the same ranges as the rest of the line: bearing bars from 20x3 mm to 100x8 mm plain or serrated, spacing 30 / 40 / 60 mm, close mesh to 11 / 11 mm press-locked, panels up to 1.25 m wide and 6 m long. Panels are cut and banded to your drawings.
