Saddle Clips vs G-Clips vs Weldable Anchors

Trade language drifts — buyers ask for a bar grating clip, a steel grating clamp or a bar grating clamp, and mean the same family of bolted fixings. Three generic types cover almost every installation; which one wins depends on your supports and how often the panel must come up.

Clips vs welding

Why Fix, Not Weld: Removable Panels, No Site Hot Work

Welding a panel down is permanent in every direction — for the cover, for the coating and for the crew's schedule. A bolted bar grating clip does the same holding job and keeps the floor serviceable.

panel clips lift out for access

1 · Panels stay removable

Unbolt, lift, work on the valves or cabling below, drop the panel back on the same seat. Welded-down covers eventually get cut out with an angle grinder — the clip keeps the floor a maintainable one.

bearing bars saddle clip support steel · bolt only, no weld

2 · No hot work on site

Site welding means permits, fire watches and burn-through of the hot-dip galvanizing you paid for, followed by field touch-up. A bolted fixing leaves the coating — and the safety paperwork — intact.

panel edge spanner one spanner, no welder, no power

3 · Hand tools, not welders

Clips go in with a spanner and a drill — no welding crew, no certification, no site power. Panel changes during maintenance shut-downs take minutes, and your fixing layout ships with the order.

How we supply clips

What We Make In-House — and What Is Sourced

A straight answer, because it affects compatibility: we are a grating panel factory, not a clip factory. The panels come off our own lines; the clips are sourced companion items selected to match them.

Made in our workshop

  • Grating panels — electro-forged and press-locked on our own lines
  • Cutting to size, banding and edge preparation to your drawings
  • The fixing layout — which clip, where, how many per panel
  • Five-stage QC and hot-dip galvanizing management to ASTM A123 / ISO 1461

Sourced companion items

  • Clips and clamps — bought in from fixing specialists, never claimed as our own production
  • Selected to match the panel we quote — bar pitch, bar height, finish
  • Supplied alongside the panel order — one purchase order, one shipment
  • Clip-only orders — quoted case by case, never promised as a stock line

Your quote shows the split honestly: panels as one line item, sourced fixings as another — FOB Tianjin, itemized quote on request.

Why add clips to your order

Why Buyers Order Clips With Their Panels

Fixings to fit your panels

Standard and custom clips matched to the bar pitch and bar height of the panels we quote you — compatibility checked free inside the 24-hour quote.

Heavy-duty clip sets

Heavier clamp and anchor sets for wheel traffic and vibration service — specified with your heavy-duty panel layout, not guessed from a catalogue.

Galvanized or stainless

Galvanized clips as standard to match HDG panels; SS304 or SS316 fixings for washdown, chemical and coastal areas — same finish logic as the floor.

Small MOQ, shipped FOB

Add fixings to a trial order or a full container — clips ship FOB Tianjin with the panels and clear customs together, itemized on one quote.

Applications

Where Bar Grating Clips Earn Their Keep

Anywhere a floor must be walked on today and opened up tomorrow — bolted fixings hold the panel down without locking you out of what is underneath.

Platform flooring

Clip-fixed panels on steel beams — sections lift out for pipe and cable work below.

Trench & pit covers

Covers that stay put under traffic yet unbolt for drain cleaning and jetting.

Mezzanines & catwalks

Edge and field clips keep deck sections aligned with no rattle under foot traffic.

Plant & rooftop walkways

Bolted runs installed with hand tools — no hot work permits over finished roofs.

Panel fit & materials

Panel Fit: Matching Clips to Your Bar Grating

Clip compatibility is decided by three panel numbers — bar pitch, bar height and panel thickness — plus what the panel sits on. We check all four against our panel schedule before quoting, standard or custom.

ParameterHow clips match it
Bearing bar pitch30 / 40 / 60 mm centers across our panel range
Bearing bar size20×3 mm to 100×8 mm — saddle height selected to suit
Panel sizeUp to 1.25 m wide × 6 m long, custom cut
Fixing familiesSaddle clips · G-clips · weldable anchors · bolt-down sets
Clip materialsGalvanized steel as standard · SS304 / SS316 on request

Four details are enough for us to match clips to panels — or add them to the panel order you are already placing:

  1. 1Panel spec — bar pitch and bearing bar size, panel thickness
  2. 2Support detail — steel beam, seating angle, concrete or frame
  3. 3Traffic — pedestrian, pallet truck or vehicle wheels
  4. 4Quantities and finish — galvanized or stainless, panels plus clips

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you manufacture the bar grating clips yourselves?

No — and we say so plainly. The grating panels are made in-house on our electro-forging and press-locking lines; the clips are sourced companion items, selected to match your panel spec and quoted with the panels as one order.

How many clips does each panel need?

As a rule of thumb, start with one clip at each corner of every panel, then add more along the edges for longer panels, wheel traffic or vibration service. Your order ships with an installation drawing and a fixing layout, so the final count is decided per panel, not guessed.

Can I order clips without panels?

Clips are supplied primarily alongside our panel orders, because fit depends on bar pitch and bar height. Clip-only enquiries are quoted case by case — send the panel spec the clips must fit (bar pitch, bar height, thickness) and quantities, and we will confirm within 24 hours.
