Duty comparison
Structural Grating vs Industrial Floor Grating
Every industrial steel grating panel is bearing bars plus cross bars. What separates structural grating is where it sits in the duty spectrum: heavier bars, longer clear spans and load cases that assume equipment, not just footsteps. Here is the honest side-by-side:
| Dimension | Industrial Floor Grating | Structural Grating | Heavy-Duty Welded |
|---|---|---|---|
| Duty target | Pedestrian traffic and light rolling loads | Point loads, equipment weight and heavy spans between supports | Forklift and vehicle traffic at rated span |
| Bearing bar | Usually the lighter end of the 20×3–100×8 mm range | Selected toward the heavy end, up to 100×8 mm | Heavy sections at close centers |
| Span behavior | Shorter spans, more support steel | Longer clear spans with deflection checked for your load case | Wheel loads carried with less deflection |
| Mesh | 30 / 40 / 60 mm centers | 30 / 40 / 60 mm centers, close mesh where heel traffic crosses | Close centers for concentrated loads |
| Typical use | Walkways, trench covers, plant flooring | Mezzanines, equipment platforms, heavy-span walkways, guardrail infill | Docks, driveways and plant floors under wheels |
| Our lines | In-house — welded or press-locked | In-house — welded or press-locked to your specs | In-house — electro-forging line |

How structural panels are built
From Bar Selection to Galvanized Panel
1 · Bars selected for the span
Structural grating starts at bar selection: heavier bearing bars mean longer clear spans and less support steel under your platform. Span and load data for your panels is provided with your quote.
2 · Welded or press-locked forming
The same panel in two constructions: electro-forged for maximum joint strength at wide spans, press-locked for perfectly flat, close-mesh floors. Either way it is cut and banded to your drawings.
3 · Hot-dip galvanizing, ASTM A123
Structural panels go to a certified galvanizing partner near our mill for ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 hot-dip galvanizing — typically 2–3 days, already counted inside your production window.
Why specify structural
Why Engineers Order Structural Grating Factory-Direct
Mill-direct, FOB Tianjin
Industrial grating straight from the mill: itemized FOB Tianjin pricing, EXW or CIF negotiable, small trial orders welcome — with treads and covers quotable in the same order and one loading plan.
Anti-slip under structural loads
Serrated bearing bars bite into wet or oily soles on mezzanine edges and sloped walkways; plain bars keep trolleys and carts rolling smooth. Same structure, your surface choice.
Certified & tested, HDG A123
Structural grating is batch tested on our five-stage QC plan, hot-dip galvanized to ASTM A123, and documented: reports on request, with an MTC to EN 10204 3.1 and a factory inspection report in every shipment.
Applications
Where Structural Grating Carries the Load
Open-mesh industrial steel grating that replaces plate flooring wherever drainage, weight or access matters — specified by span and load case, not by guesswork.
Mezzanines & equipment platforms
Heavy bars spanning between beams — storage floors, machine bases and maintenance platforms that stay open to light and sprinklers.
Heavy-span walkways
Long clear spans with fewer supports — pipe racks, catwalks and access routes over plant floors.
Guardrail infill panels
Rigid open-mesh infill for platforms and walkway edges — wind-transparent, self-draining, hot-dip galvanized.
Industrial floor grating
Plant and workshop flooring that sheds coolant, oil and debris — serrated surface where the floor stays wet.

FAQ
Structural Grating FAQ
What bearing bar sizes does structural grating use?
Structural grating is specified across the full 20×3 to 100×8 mm bearing-bar range, with structural duty usually selecting the heavy end toward 100×8 mm. Span, load and deflection data for your exact panels is provided with your quote.
Is structural grating produced to a standard?
Yes — panels are produced to ANSI/NAAMM MBG 531 reference practice, with weld inspection on our five-stage QC plan. Certified and tested, reports on request: an MTC to EN 10204 3.1 and a factory inspection report ship with every order.
How fast can I get structural grating samples and production?
Samples ship in 5–7 working days and mass production runs 15–25 working days after drawing confirmation, both including hot-dip galvanizing to ASTM A123. A factory quote lands within 24 hours of your drawing.
