Bearing Direction, Serration and the Guardrail Companion
1 · Bearing bars carry the load
Feet land on bearing bars, bearing bars land on support steel — so panel orientation matters before anything else. Cross bars hold the bearing bars in plane; they do not carry the span. Our electro-forging line welds every intersection into one panel; press-locked catwalk panels cover close-mesh duties.
2 · Serrated option for oily plants
Serration is a geometry choice, not a coating: the teeth stand proud of the bar so a boot sole meets edges instead of a flat face. Specify it for wet or oily process areas; keep plain surfaces for dry indoor routes. See the serrated grating mechanics page for how the tooth profile works.
3 · The guardrail companion
A catwalk is a system, not a panel: floor panels, posts and rails, a toe plate to stop dropped tools, and infill panels that match the floor spec. Guardrail companions, toe plates and fixing clips are sourced companion items we supply alongside our panels to one set of drawings.
