Why Washdown Floors Move the Channel to Stainless
A channel drain in a food or chemical hall lives a harder life than one in a car park: daily hose-downs, cleaning chemicals and constant scrubbing. A stainless steel channel drain answers that environment with SS304 or SS316 bodies, and a trench drain stainless steel spec follows the same rule — which is why washdown floors almost always end up there. The grade decision is about what the environment does to the metal — decide it here, then send the layout.
| Dimension | SS304 channel | SS316 channel | HDG carbon channel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Surface behavior | No coating to chip — the alloy is the surface, scratches stay stainless | Zinc layer protects until impact or chemicals strip it; exposed steel rusts | |
| Chemical tolerance | Routine detergents and mild sanitizers | Molybdenum-added: chlorides, brine, harsh sanitizers | Neutral water only; acids and salts attack zinc |
| Cleanability | Solid alloy scrubs clean; nothing flakes into the drain path | Coating damage traps soil and sheds flakes | |
| Typical zones | Food halls, kitchens, packaging floors | Chemical bays, coastal aprons, marine walkways | Yards, highways, civil trench runs |
| Spec range | Identical bar and mesh range on all three — 20×3 to 100×8 mm bearing bars, 30 / 40 / 60 mm centers | ||

Designed for hose-downs
Three Details That Make a Channel Drain Hygienic
1 · No coating to chip
SS304 and SS316 channel sections are solid alloy through and through. A dropped pan, a scraper or a forklift brush exposes more stainless — never bare steel that rusts under the wash water.
2 · Drainable radii
Specify radiused channel corners on your drawing: bent sections keep water and solids moving to the outlet instead of collecting in square traps. Radiused channel bodies are quoted per project with free drawing review.
3 · Cleanable open mesh
Open-mesh grating covers lift out for full access to the channel body, and wash water drops through the whole run instead of pooling on a solid lid. Banded edges leave no ragged bar ends to hold residue.
Why specify stainless channel
Fast-Draining, Load-Rated, Custom Length — From the Mill
Fast-draining across the full run
Water enters along the whole channel, not at one gully. Open mesh at 30 / 40 / 60 mm centers takes hose-down volumes without ponding — and debris washes through to the outlet.
Load-rated to your real traffic
From A15 washdown aisles to D400 loading-dock crossings, load classes referenced to EN 124 — bar height and spacing are selected from the 20×3 – 100×8 mm range we build every day.
Custom length, mill certificates included
Any run length cut and banded to your drawings — direct from the mill, no middlemen, small MOQ. Mill test certificates (EN 10204 Type 3.1) with every shipment.
Applications
Where Stainless Channel Drains Earn Their Keep
Any floor that gets hosed down daily or sees corrosive spillage is stainless country — the grade changes with the chemistry, the channel format stays the same.
Food processing floors
Daily hose-downs and food-safe cleaning chemistry — SS304 channel runs along walls and prep lines.
Chemical & plating bays
Acid and salt spillage attacks coatings — SS316 channel drains keep washing down without flaking.
Beverage, dairy & pharma
Sanitary interiors with strict cleaning schedules — stainless channels and slot drains that scrub clean.
Coastal & marine runs
Chloride-rich salt spray where galvanizing does not last — SS316 channel and grating for exposed aprons.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Which grade should a stainless channel drain use — SS304 or SS316?
SS304 handles routine food-plant washdown and mild cleaning chemicals. SS316 adds molybdenum for chloride exposure — brine lines, salt spray and harsh sanitizers — so it is the safer call for chemical and coastal duty. Both grades run on the same bar and mesh range.
Why is a stainless channel drain easier to keep clean than coated steel?
The alloy is the surface: there is no paint or zinc layer to chip, flake or trap soil in scratches. Open-mesh grating lets wash water drop straight through the run, and banded edges leave no ragged bar ends to hold residue.
What is the lead time, and do you take small trial orders?
Samples ship in 5–7 working days and production runs 15–25 working days after drawing confirmation. Small trial orders are welcome — shipped worldwide from Tianjin Port, FOB Tianjin as standard, itemized quote within 24 hours.
