Grill, Grate, Grating — One Metal Product, Three Names
In the metal trade, a grill is simply a grate. The words are used interchangeably on drawings, quotations and site calls — which is why a search for drain grill metal, grating for drain and metal drain grill returns the same family of products. Construction & formats
Every Drain Grill Starts as Bar Grating
1 · Open-mesh welded panels
Bearing bars carry the load, cross bars lock them in line, and the open area between bars is what drains. Electro-forged intersections cannot work loose under repeated wheel passes.
2 · Close mesh & banded edges
Where pedestrian traffic or small debris matters, press-locked close mesh goes down to 11 / 11 mm openings. Banded edges stiffen the panel rim so point loads at the opening edge do not pry bars apart.
3 · Finish matched to exposure
Outdoor grills go hot-dip galvanized to ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 for corrosion life. Washdown and chemical areas move to SS304 or SS316 stainless — the geometry stays the same.
