Which Mesh Spacing Does Your Channel Need?

A channel grating has two jobs that pull in opposite directions: pass enough water at peak flow, and keep the debris out that would block the channel body. Water volume and debris size decide the mesh spacing; the traffic above the channel decides the bars underneath.

Start at the outlet and work backwards: how much water the channel must move at peak, and how large the debris is. Big flows with coarse debris favor 40 or 60 mm openings; fine litter near footpaths points to 11/11 mm close mesh.
