Spacing selection
Steel Mesh Patterns: Which Spacing Suits Your Floor
Specifying steel grating mesh — many buyers write it as steel mesh grating or steel mesh flooring — comes down to one decision: the opening between bearing bars. Wider openings drain faster but carry less load per bar; closer openings carry more but let less through. We form welded mesh at 30 / 40 / 60 mm centers on the in-house electro-forging line, and press-locked close mesh at 11 / 11 mm for floors walked in heels. This is the selection table we walk specifiers through before quoting.
| Mesh pattern | Specify it for | Drainage & open area | Load & span note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30 mm centers — welded | Plant flooring, mezzanines, conveyor access — dense foot and trolley traffic where fine debris must drop through | Moderate — rain passes, chips fall | Most bearing bars per meter: the highest distributed capacity of the welded patterns, kindest to short spans |
| 40 mm centers — welded | The walkway default: access paths, platforms, stair treads | Good — free flow with solid footing | The balanced pattern: typical pedestrian and light wheel loads across normal support spacing |
| 60 mm centers — welded | Flow duty: trench covers, gully grates, drainage flooring | Maximum — heaviest water and debris pass straight through | Fewest bars per meter: step the bearing bar up within 20×3 to 100×8 mm, or shorten the support span |
| 11 / 11 mm — press-locked close mesh | Public floors walked in heels: concourses, tree pits, facade infill | Lowest — sheds rain slowly; not a drainage pattern | Uniform pedestrian loads on a flat, no-weld panel of fine bars |

Drainage vs load
The Trade-Off Every Steel Mesh Specification Makes
1 · Open area vs bar count
Step the centers from 30 to 60 mm and the panel opens for water — but the number of bearing bars per meter drops with it. Flow is bought with load capacity, and paid back with deeper bars or shorter spans.
2 · Bearing bars carry the span
Steel mesh grating carries load in one direction: along the bearing bars. Banding marks the strong axis, and the installation drawings and fixing layout we ship with every order keep that axis over the supports.
3 · Surface and finish come last
Spacing first, surface second: serrated bars for wet or oily floors, plain for dry zones. Then hot-dip galvanizing to ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 for weather — or SS316 stainless where the mesh meets chemicals or salt.
Why steel mesh
Why Specifiers Put Steel Mesh Under Heavy Floors
Heavy-duty steel mesh
Bearing bars from 20×3 mm to 100×8 mm and forge-welded joints that cannot work loose — steel mesh flooring that carries wheels and pallet trucks, not just boots.
Anti-slip steel mesh
Serrated bearing bars bite when the floor is wet or oily; plain bars clean faster in dry zones. Same mesh patterns, same loads — you choose the surface.
Cut to size, made to order
Every panel leaves the workshop to your drawings — banded and sized, with free drawing review in the 24-hour quote. Small trial orders welcome, samples in 5–7 days.
Applications
Where Each Steel Mesh Pattern Ends Up
Match the opening to the traffic and the flow — the same panel family, four different duties.
Plant platforms & mezzanines
30 mm welded mesh under foot and trolley traffic — fine debris falls, loads stay up.
Walkways & stair treads
40 mm centers — the balanced pattern for daily access routes and treads.
Trench & drainage covers
60 mm mesh where water flow matters more than footfall — gullies and channels.
Public & municipal floors
11 / 11 mm press-locked close mesh — heel-proof and flat for concourses and tree pits.

Materials & test documents
Every heat of Q235B, SS304 or SS316 enters production with its mill test certificate verified at goods-in — the first of our five QC stages. Mesh panels leave with documentation, not promises:
- Mill test certificate to EN 10204 Type 3.1
- Factory inspection report with every shipment
- Declaration of Conformity prepared per order destination
Standards & compliance
Produced to Recognized Standards — Documents on Request
ANSI / NAAMM MBG 531
Steel mesh panels produced to MBG 531 reference practice, with joint inspection on the five-stage QC plan.
Steel mesh to ASTM A123
Hot-dip galvanizing to ASTM A123 / ISO 1461, coating thickness checked by sampling on every galvanized batch before release.
CE & SGS tested
Certified & tested, reports on request — we show documents you can verify, not a certificate wall.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I choose steel grating mesh spacing?
Choose by what crosses the floor and what must pass through it. Public traffic in heels needs 11 / 11 mm press-locked close mesh; general walkways and stair treads take 40 mm welded mesh; plant platforms that must shed fine debris take 30 mm; trench covers and drainage flooring take 60 mm for maximum flow. Send us the loads and we will confirm the spacing in your quote.
Serrated or plain steel mesh — which surface should I specify?
Plain surface for dry areas and easier cleanability; serrated bearing bars for wet, oily or outdoor floors where grip matters. Both surfaces come in every welded spacing and in 11 / 11 mm close mesh, black or hot-dip galvanized to ASTM A123 / ISO 1461.
Can steel mesh flooring be cut to size and made to order?
Yes — steel mesh grating is made to order, cut and banded to your drawings, in panels up to 1.25 m wide and 6 m long. Samples ship in 5–7 working days, mass production in 15–25 working days after drawing confirmation, and small trial orders are welcome.
