What the chart includes
Two Numbers in Every Row: Steel Mass, Then Zinc
A galvanized bar grating weight chart is really two charts in one. The first column family is the bare-steel unit weight of the panel as welded; the second adds what the zinc kettle puts on top. However it is labelled — as a galvanized weight chart or a plain steel bar grating weight chart — the arithmetic is the same, because both are bar steel per unit of area plus the zinc. Here is what each part means — the verified values travel with your quote, because they depend on inputs only your project can confirm.
Bare-steel unit weight
Mass per square metre of the black panel: bearing bars, cross bars and banding, computed from the bar section and the bar count per metre that spacing produces. This is the number structural software usually asks for.
Zinc pickup
Hot-dip galvanizing deposits coating on every exposed surface, so the panel gains mass on top of its unchanged steel section. How much depends on the surface area per square metre and on the coating thickness class specified — a close-mesh panel exposes far more surface than a wide-mesh one of equal steel mass.
Total galvanized weight
The galvanized unit weight and the weight of a standard panel, so you can carry the zinc into dead-load sums, lifting plans and freight budgets without guessing. Our sheet states the coating basis next to every value.
How the chart is laid out

Why galvanized and black weights differ slightly
Galvanizing never touches the steel section — the bearing bar that goes into the kettle is the bar that comes out. The only change is coating mass, and coating mass scales with surface, not with steel mass. That is why the gap between the two columns is small on wide-mesh heavy sections and proportionally larger on fine-mesh light panels, which expose more zincable surface per unit of steel.
The second driver is the coating thickness class you specify: heavier duty environments call for a thicker coating, and a thicker coating is more mass on the same surface. Kettle conditions set the pickup the process actually delivers, which is why we state the measured basis rather than quoting a single multiplier for every panel.

From Bar Section to Chart Row: Where the Kilograms Come From
Every row in a galvanized weight chart is the product of three geometry decisions. Change any one and you move to a different row — or to a different weight within the same row.
1 · Bar section sets steel per metre
Depth × thickness of one bearing bar fixes how much steel each bar contributes per metre of panel. Cross-section grows with both dimensions, which is why the top of our range outweighs the bottom many times over.
2 · Spacing sets bars per metre
Centers of 30, 40 or 60 mm decide how many of those bars stand in each metre of width. Spacing is the strongest lever on the row value — it is also the lever that changes the zincable surface most.
3 · Zinc rides on the surface
The coating wraps each exposed face — bars, cross bars, banding — so its mass tracks total surface area and the thickness class specified, not the steel mass. Fine mesh collects proportionally more zinc per kilogram of steel.
