Galvanized Steel Grating Standard Sizes in mm
Every grating maker uses the word "standard" differently. Ours is simple: the standard sizes for our steel grating are the size families our own lines run every day — the envelope below. Any panel inside it, galvanized, is a standard product here, not a special.
| Parameter | Our standard range |
|---|---|
| Bearing bar height | 20 mm to 100 mm |
| Bearing bar thickness | 3 mm to 8 mm — from 20×3 mm up to 100×8 mm |
| Bearing bar pitch | 30 / 40 / 60 mm centres on the welded line |
| Close-mesh pitch | Down to 11 / 11 mm on press-locked panels |
| Cross bar | Twisted square or round, per specification |
| Panel width | Up to 1.25 m |
| Panel length | Up to 6 m |
| Galvanizing substrate | Q235B carbon steel (SS304 / SS316 run the same sizes, uncoated) |
| Surface | Hot-dip galvanized to ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 referenced practice |
We do not publish a per-SKU inventory list. What you get is the honest version: standard size families, cut to your dimensions, with a size sheet for your exact configuration provided with your quote. Ask for the standard sizes sheet — engineers reply within 24 hours.
How a size is chosen
Three Decisions Define a Grating Size
A grating standard size in mm is three numbers working together — bar section, bar pitch and panel format. Here is how our engineers walk each one with you.
The panel envelope — width, length, pitch
Panels leave the mill up to 1.25 m wide and 6 m long. Everything smaller is cut from that envelope to your drawing — the panel schematic above is the boundary of "standard", not a menu you have to fit into.
Bar section — set by span and load
Taller, thicker bars carry more over longer clear spans; light 20×3 mm and 25×5 mm sections suit pedestrian walkways, while 50 mm and taller sections take trolley and wheel loads. We confirm bar section against your span and load case in the quote — no guesswork tables.
Bar pitch — set by what falls through
30 mm centres keep small objects and most footwear on the panel, 40 / 60 mm centres save steel on industrial floors, and press-locked 11 / 11 mm close mesh is the heel-proof option for public floors.
Format and finish — set by the site
Full 1.25 m × 6 m mill panels for large floors, or panels pre-cut and banded to your dimensions for trench runs and platforms. Hot-dip galvanizing applies to any size in the range, typically 2–3 days at our certified partner plant, already counted inside the production window.
Why specify our standard sizes
Standard Sizes, Verified by the Factory That Makes Them
Full standard sizes specs
One envelope covers light walkways to heavy platforms: bars 20×3–100×8 mm, pitch 30/40/60 mm plus 11/11 mm close mesh, panels to 1.25 m × 6 m. The full size sheet for your configuration travels with your quote.
Standard sizes to ASTM A123
Galvanizing is not an upgrade tier here — any standard size in the range goes to ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 referenced practice, with coating thickness checked by sampling on every galvanized batch.
Standard sizes by email
Send your panel schedule and factory engineers answer within 24 hours — size recommendations, the itemized quote and the sizes sheet, free by email. Made simple, verified by the people who run the lines.
Applications
Where Standard Sizes Land on Site
The same standard families cover most steel grating standard sizes asked for in enquiry lists — the duty, not the catalogue number, picks the family.
Platforms & walkways
Panels cut from 1.25 m mill width, mid-range bar sections at 40 / 60 mm centres, galvanized for outdoor duty.
Trench & drainage covers
Long 6 m panels sliced into trench runs, banded edges, spacing chosen for the water and debris profile.
Stair treads
Standard-family panels re-cut into treads with nosing and end plates — one envelope, many end products.
Mezzanine & plant floors
Full sheets laid on steel framing for light-loss-free floors — heights and pitches sized to the load case.
Formats & equivalents
Common Formats, Mapped to Our Mill Envelope
Enquiry lists mix metric sizes, imperial sheet formats and US designations. They all land inside the same production envelope — here is the mapping.
| Format on your list | In millimetres | How we make it |
|---|---|---|
| 4 × 8 ft sheet | ≈ 1.22 m × 2.44 m | Cut from panels up to 1.25 m wide by 6 m long — a full 4x8 sheet is a standard order |
| 19W4 designation | ≈ 30 mm bearing bar centres | Closest standard pitch we run: 30 mm welded centres — 19W4 explained |
| Close-centre / heel-proof mesh | 11 / 11 mm openings | Press-locked close mesh, no weld heat, flat panels |
| Mill panel, full size | 1.25 m wide × 6 m long | The largest standard format we ship — bigger areas are multiple panels |
| Custom dimensions | Any size inside the envelope | Cut and banded to your drawings, galvanized — same envelope, your numbers |
The standard sizes sheet — provided with your quote
We do not publish guessed inventory. The sheet is prepared by our engineers for the configuration you order and arrives with your itemized quote, free by email:
- Standard size families in mm — bar sections, pitch and panel formats we run
- Your configuration: per-panel dimensions, banding and finish, black versus galvanized
- Imperial equivalents for 4x8-style projects, so one sheet serves both unit systems
- MTC EN 10204 3.1 on every heat — sizes you can trace back to the mill

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the standard sizes for galvanized steel grating?
Our standard size envelope runs bearing bars from 20×3 mm to 100×8 mm at 30/40/60 mm centres, with press-locked close mesh down to 11/11 mm, and panels up to 1.25 m wide by 6 m long. We work in standard size families rather than a published per-SKU stock list — panels are cut to your dimensions inside that envelope.
What is a 4x8 steel grating panel in millimetres?
A 4 × 8 ft sheet is about 1.22 m by 2.44 m — well inside our panel envelope of up to 1.25 m wide by 6 m long, so full 4x8 sheets and pieces cut from them are both routine orders.
Can any size be hot-dip galvanized?
Yes — every carbon-steel size in the range can be hot-dip galvanized to ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 referenced practice at our certified partner plant near the mill. Galvanizing typically takes 2–3 days and is already counted inside the 15–25 day production window.
