Serrated, Plain or Twisted: Three Ways a Bar Meets a Sole
Most anti-slip enquiries come down to one component decision: which top surface should the walking surface be? Here are the three bar geometries we supply — each orderable as loose bars or inside panels.

How the tooth works
The Serrated Edge, Described as Geometry
1 · One toothed edge per bar
Serration is a cutting step, not a coating: the top edge of the flat bar is sheared into a repeated tooth profile before the bar is welded or packed. The profile repeats along the full length, so every footfall that crosses the bar meets the same series of small ramps.
2 · Teeth work across the walking direction
A toothed bar grips soles that cross it. On a wet or oily floor, the thin film that separates a smooth bar from footwear is interrupted by tooth edges standing in the tread's path, while the open mesh lets the liquid fall through. Bar direction is therefore part of the specification — we confirm it in the quote.
3 · Same section, same load path
Teeth change the top surface, not the section that carries load. Depth and thickness still govern span and load, so specifying a serrated top never downsizes the bar — you order the same 20×3 mm to 100×8 mm section you would order plain, with the tooth added to the walking face.
That is as far as we go: we describe serration as geometry and make no slip-coefficient or slip-test claims. What we can hand you is the mill certificate for the exact heat your bars were cut from.

Either way you are buying the component. Four decisions on your drawing tell us exactly what to cut:
Which bars
Default is teeth on every bearing bar. Alternating toothed and plain bars are possible where a partially smooth line is wanted — mark the pattern on the drawing.
Which face
Teeth belong on the walking face. If panels can be fitted either way up, say so — the toothed side is called out on the installation drawing that ships with the order.
Which section & pitch
Bar depth and thickness from 20×3 to 100×8 mm at 30 / 40 / 60 mm centers. Span governs depth, load governs thickness — we check both in the free drawing review.
Bars alone, or in panels
Fabricators who frame their own supports can order bars only — same mill, same MTC, packed and bundled to your cutting list.
The same component finishes a run of steel serrated anti-slip channel — a drainage cover where the walking surface is the bar itself. Send the channel profile and we quote bars and covers together.
