Each flat bar is notched at every crossing and the mating bar is pressed in, so the two meet across their full face width — broad surface contact that carries fine centers without welding heat or distortion. That contact, described qualitatively, is why flat bars suit close mesh.

2 · Close mesh a heel cannot enter

Interlocking lets centers come down to 11 / 11 mm, so the openings stay smaller than a typical shoe heel. The panel still drains and vents like grating — but heels, litter and small tools stay on top, which is what pedestrian and public floors ask for.

Serration is a cutting step on the flat bar itself: the top edge is sheared into a repeated tooth profile before notching and pressing. In the finished panel every bar the sole crosses — in both directions on a close mesh — carries the same row of small ramps.
