Weather-zone chooser

Where Serrated + Hot-Dip Galvanized Is the Default Spec

This page is about the outdoor combination: a serrated metal grating surface for wet soles, plus a hot-dip galvanized coating for weather that never dries out. If you are new to how the tooth profile itself works, start with the serration fundamentals — then come back and pick your zone. Buyers asking for a serrated galvanized grating almost always sit in one of these three:

Weather zone What the walking surface meets Default spec for the zone
Rain-wet zonesA water film sits on flat steel; open mesh drains it through the panel instead of across itSerrated surface + hot-dip galvanized finish
Frost & freeze–thawOvernight glaze forms on flat bars first; a toothed top still presents many edges to the soleSerrated surface + hot-dip galvanized finish
Snow-melt & de-icing saltChloride-rich slush attacks bare steel edges and weld pointsSerrated surface + hot-dip galvanized, coating thickness checked by sampling
Dry indoor floorsDust and occasional spills onlyPlain surface is usually enough — galvanized, painted or black

In all three outdoor zones the answer converges on the same panel: serrated top, zinc coating, open mesh. Tell us your exposure and loads — send your drawings and we will spec it inside the 24-hour quote.

Teeth & coating

How the Teeth and the Zinc Work Together

bearing bar · teeth rolled into the top edge sole pressure on the tooth tips

1 · Serrated bearing bars

The teeth are part of the bar profile itself, formed before assembly — not an add-on grit or coating that wears away. Every bearing bar carries the row, so the geometry runs the full walking direction of the panel, and the open mesh drains water through instead of letting it pool.

cross bars forged joints · tooth tips up

2 · Forged into panels

Serrated bars are assembled tooth-side up and every bearing-bar / cross-bar intersection is pressure-forged in one pass on our electro-forging line. Panels leave flat, with the full serrated surface presented to foot traffic and banding available on all edges.

molten zinc full immersion — inside the mesh and over every tooth

3 · Hot-dip galvanized

Finished panels go to a certified galvanizing partner near our mill for ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 hot-dip galvanizing — typically 2–3 days, already counted inside your production window. Because the panel is dipped after the teeth are formed, zinc coats the tooth profile and the joint interiors, not just the flats.

Why specify the combo

Why Buyers Specify Galvanized Serrated Grating Outdoors

Factory-direct, no middlemen

You buy the serrated galvanized grating from the mill that cuts, forges and inspects it. FOB Tianjin as standard, itemized quote within 24 hours, small trial orders welcome.

Serrated or plain, any size

Both top surfaces run on the same bar range — 20×3 mm to 100×8 mm, at 30 / 40 / 60 mm centers, with 19W4 serrated equivalents. Panels cut and banded to your drawings, free drawing review included.

Stairs covered, mill cert included

The same serrated galvanized surface carries into stair treads and landings, so outdoor routes keep one consistent walking surface. A mill test certificate to EN 10204 3.1 travels with every order.

Applications

Where the Combo Earns Its Keep

Anywhere people walk on steel that the weather touches — this is the serrated metal grating configuration we quote most for exposed sites.

Outdoor walkways & platforms

Rain-exposed access routes where water must fall through, not across, the floor.

Outdoor stairs & treads

Serrated treads with nosing and end-plate options — stairs covered, as the ads say.

Ramps & loading docks

Sloped steel under wheels and boots, plus snow-melt runoff in winter climates.

Trench & drainage covers

Covers over wet channels beside walk zones — HDG holds up to constant moisture.

Materials & test documents

Every heat of Q235B enters production with its mill test certificate verified at goods-in — the first of our five QC stages. Galvanized batches get coating-thickness sampling before release. Panels leave with documentation, not promises:

  • Mill test certificate to EN 10204 Type 3.1
  • Factory inspection report with every shipment
  • Declaration of Conformity prepared per order destination

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the serrated surface improve grip on wet floors?

Each bearing bar carries a row of geometric teeth along its top edge. Underfoot, the sole meets many small load-bearing edges instead of one flat plane, and the open mesh lets water drain through the panel instead of pooling on it. It is an anti-slip design feature of the bar profile — we describe the geometry and provide material and coating reports on request.

When should I specify galvanized serrated grating instead of plain?

Specify the serrated surface plus hot-dip galvanizing wherever the panel sits outdoors or meets rain, frost or snow-melt — walkways, stairs, ramps and platforms. For dry indoor floors a plain top surface is usually enough. Both surfaces are available on the same bar sizes, so the choice is made per zone, not per order.

Can I get samples before ordering a full batch?

Yes — samples ship in 5–7 working days including hot-dip galvanizing, and small trial orders are welcome. Send your panel sizes and quantities for an itemized quote within 24 hours.
