Pan-Format Grating Panels vs Plate and Close-Mesh Floors

A floor pan is a grating panel finished to sit into a floor opening: banded edges, cut to size, bearing cleanly on its supports. It is still open mesh — water, light and air pass through. The closed-surface option at the end of the table is a different product, quoted as a composite on request.

Terminology, honestly

Two Readings of Floor Pan Grating — We Quote Both

Buyers use the word pan in two ways, and honest pages should say so. Reading one is the panel itself — a pan-style grating panel with banded edges. Reading two is the job — grating cut to cover a floor pan, pit or opening. Both come from the same lines and the same quote, so nothing is lost in translation.

Reading 1 — the pan-style panel

An open-mesh grating panel finished like a pan: a flat steel band closes the cut ends, so the panel presents clean edges and drops into place as one module. The most common reading, and the closest to a grating floor plate.

Reading 2 — the cover for a floor pan or opening

The grating itself is specified against the opening: pan covers are cut to the opening size, notched around intrusions, and bear on the support angles that frame the hole. Tell us which reading your drawings use — the quote is identical.

banded pan edge

1 · Banded edges as standard

A flat steel band is welded around the cut bar ends — the pan presents a closed edge, carries loads into the band and is safer to lift and install.

2 · Cut to sit into the opening

Pans are cut to the opening size and bearing direction, with notches where pipes or steel intrude. Load direction arrows marked on request.

3 · Toe plate at exposed edges

Where a pan floor meets an open mezzanine edge, a toe plate rises above the walking surface to stop feet and small parts going over the side.

Why pan format

Why Buyers Order Floor Pan Grating Factory-Direct

Serrated or plain — you pick the surface

Anti-slip floor pan grating uses serrated bearing bars that bite in wet or oily service; plain bars roll cleaner under trolleys and sweep out faster. Both surfaces in one order.

Custom cut to your drawings

Pans run up to 1.25 m wide and 6 m long, then cut, notched and banded to the opening. Free drawing review is part of the 24-hour quote — custom is the norm, not the exception.

Factory-direct, from small MOQ

One factory, one itemized FOB Tianjin quote. Small trial orders are welcome — test a single pan module before the full floor is committed, samples in 5–7 days.

Applications

Where Pan Panels and Pan Covers Work

Pan formats are specified wherever a floor module or opening cover has to install as a single banded unit — with the drainage, light and ventilation of open mesh underneath.

Mezzanine floor pans

Banded pans laid into mezzanine framing — toe plate optional at exposed edges.

Floor opening covers

Open steel floor grating closes the fall hazard while light, air and drainage pass through.

Pit & pan covers

Covers for service pits and shallow pans under process areas — spills drain straight through.

Platform floor modules

Pan modules bolted to a support grid with fixing clips — heavy-duty bars where wheels cross.

Materials & test documents

Every heat of Q235B, SS304 or SS316 enters production with its mill test certificate verified at goods-in — the first of our five QC stages. Pans leave with documentation, not promises:

  • Mill test certificate to EN 10204 Type 3.1
  • Factory inspection report with every shipment
  • Declaration of Conformity prepared per order destination

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What does floor pan grating actually mean?

Two readings exist, and we quote both. Most buyers mean a pan-style panel: an open-mesh grating panel with banded edges, cut to size so it sits into a floor opening like a pan. Others mean a cover for a floor pan or pit opening — the same panel, specified against the opening size and its supports. Send your opening drawing and we will confirm which one your project needs.

Do floor pans come banded and cut to fit openings?

Yes — banding is standard on pan orders. A flat steel band closes the cut bar ends, carries edge loads into the supports and makes every pan safe to lift and install. Panels are cut to your drawing with any notches, and a toe plate can be added at exposed mezzanine edges.

What is the lead time and minimum order for floor pans?

Samples ship in 5–7 working days and mass production runs 15–25 working days after drawing confirmation, both including hot-dip galvanizing. Small trial orders are welcome — a single pan module can be tested before the full floor is committed. An itemized quote lands within 24 hours.
