Load class guide

Pick the Grating Before You Pour the Channel

On a 1 m module the grating is the structural lid: bearing bars span across the channel and carry whatever crosses it. Class the traffic first, then the channel body and cover follow from one specification. Classes below are referenced to EN 124 — panels are produced to the class you specify.

Load classreferenced to EN 124 Typical traffic Grating spec we quote Where it sits in the run
A15Pedestrians, bicycles20×3 / 25×3 mm bearing bars, 30–40 mm centersPatios, footpaths, roof perimeter channels
B125Cars, light vans30×3 / 40×4 mm bearing bars, 30–40 mm centersParking bays, driveway edges, yard doors
C250Kerbside traffic, delivery vans40×4 / 50×5 mm bearing bars, 30–40 mm centersKerb lines, forecourt margins, service yards
D400Trucks and HGV wheels50×5 up to 100×8 mm bearing bars, 30 mm centers, banded edgesRoad crossings, loading bays, washdown aprons

Not sure which class your crossing needs? Send your drawings — we will spec it inside the 24-hour quote.

Coverage planning

One Spec: 1 m Channel Runs + Grating Covers

1 m module grating cover: bearing bars span the channel

1 · The matched module

Each module pairs a 1 m channel body with a cover cut and banded to the same opening. Coverage is simple arithmetic: run length divided into modules, with cover panels numbered to drop straight onto their section.

module 1 · 2 · 3 … end cap outlet / sump

2 · Runs, end caps & outlets

Mark outlet positions and slope direction on your layout. We confirm module count, end caps and outlet placement in the drawing review, so the water path and the grating layout are decided in one pass — not reconciled on site.

wheel load bearing bars span the opening support edge / frame

3 · Load framing

Bearing bars run across the channel and land on the support edges or companion frames each side — the span is the channel width, not the run length. That is why one heavy class crossing sets the bar height for its whole module.

Why specify this module

Heavy Duty, High Flow, Any Length

Truck wheels, not just rain

Heavy-duty modules take bearing bars up to 100×8 mm on 30 mm centers with banded edges — the same steel grating we weld for industrial platforms, framed into a channel run.

High-flow storm water

Open mesh at 30 / 40 / 60 mm centers lets storm water straight through and sheds debris at the surface — the channel carries the flow, the grate keeps the surface trafficable.

Any run length, made to spec

Covers, frames and grates quoted as one package from one factory, factory-direct with no middlemen — modules cut to your drawings so straight runs, corners and outlet sections all arrive together.

Applications

Where 1 m Channel Modules Work

Linear drainage with a load-rated steel lid — specified wherever surface water has to disappear without giving up the surface to traffic.

Loading bays & forecourts

D400-class crossings in front of dock doors, where HGV wheels stand and turn.

Yard perimeters & aprons

Long straight runs collecting yard wash-down and rain before it reaches the gate.

Kerb lines & crossings

Channel runs along kerbs and across entrances, classed for the traffic that uses them.

Washdown & corrosive zones

Same module in SS304 / SS316 for food and chemical washdown areas.

Materials & test documents

Every heat of Q235B, SS304 or SS316 enters production with its mill test certificate verified at goods-in — the first of our five QC stages. Modules leave with documentation, not promises:

  • Mill test certificate to EN 10204 Type 3.1
  • Factory inspection report with every shipment
  • Declaration of Conformity prepared per order destination

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you supply the channel and the grating as one matched package?

Grating covers, frames and banding are made in our own workshop; channel bodies, end caps and outlet fittings are quoted as companion items alongside the panels. Everything arrives as one matched module set, listed line by line in your itemized quote.

How do I plan coverage and outlets for my run?

Send the run length, channel width and outlet positions — a hand sketch is enough. We confirm module count, end caps and outlet placement in the free drawing review, included in the 24-hour quote.

What lead time should I plan for?

Samples ship in 5–7 working days and mass production runs 15–25 working days after drawing confirmation, both including hot-dip galvanizing. Shipped worldwide FOB Tianjin — EXW or CIF negotiable.
