1 · Form the bar panel

Welded or press-locked panels come off our own lines to your bar size and spacing — then every panel is cut to the exact length on your drawing.

2 · Band the edges

A flat band bar is fitted across the cut bearing-bar ends and welded — on the two ends, or on all four faces when side edges stay exposed.

3 · Toe plate, then galvanize

Where specified, a toe plate rises above the floor line — a companion item we source and supply with the panels. Then hot-dip galvanizing to ASTM A123 / ISO 1461, 2–3 days at our partner kettle near the mill.

Panel length and width, bar size and spacing, and how many faces to band — or just photos and a sketch. Drawing review is free.

What does banded mean on bar grating?

Banded means the cut ends of the bearing bars are closed by a flat band bar welded across the panel edge. It protects the cut bar ends, stiffens the edge line and gives the panel a safe, finished edge to handle. On our welded and press-locked panels, banding is done in-house as a finishing step before galvanizing.

How many edges of a bar panel should be banded?

You choose the band faces with your dimensions. Most platform and walkway panels are banded on the two ends only; panels with exposed side edges, removable covers or nearby traffic are often banded on all four faces. Tell us the number of banded faces in your quote request and we will confirm the layout on the reviewed drawing.

Is banded bar grating the same as riveted bar grating?

No. Banded describes the closed edge — a flat band bar welded across the bearing-bar ends — and it can be applied to welded or press-locked panels. Riveted bar grating is a different forming method in which the bars are riveted rather than welded; riveted enquiries are assessed per project, while banded welded and press-locked panels are produced on our own lines.
