What the term means
Steel Diamond Grating — Two Products, One Honest Page
Steel diamond grating is a search phrase, not a single product. Most often it points at a solid raised-diamond tread plate — the patterned sheet also sold as diamond plate, checker plate or floor plate, the same family as diamond plate grating. A second group of buyers means grating with diamond-pattern openings. We say plainly what we make and what we do not: our in-house forge-weld and press lines build open mesh, so diamond openings map to our square and open-mesh layouts, and the solid tread plate is a derived format quoted to your drawings — with no stock tread-plate size program behind it. Reading A — solid diamond tread plate
One patterned steel sheet, flat and closed. Nothing drains through it, nothing falls through it. It is not one of our grating lines — we fabricate it as a derived format, cut and finished to drawings in the same workshop that bands and galvanizes our panels. Reading B — diamond-pattern openings
An open panel whose apertures the buyer pictures as diamonds. Our lines form rectangular and square openings from bearing bars and cross bars, so the honest equivalent is our square grating layouts — close-mesh press-locked down to 11/11 mm spacing, or welded open mesh on the welded line at 30/40/60 mm.

How the formats are built
From Drawing to a Diamond Surface or a Diamond Layout
1 · Tread plate to drawing
Solid diamond tread plate is cut to your panel sizes on the workshop saw and plasma path. Thickness and pattern follow your specification — there is no stock tread-plate program to pull a size from.
2 · Open mesh on our lines
The diamond-opening reading is built as a square or open-mesh layout: bearing bars and cross bars joined on the electro-forged weld line, or interlocked on the press line for close mesh down to 11/11 mm.
3 · Hot-dip galvanizing
Carbon steel panels — plate or mesh — go to a certified galvanizing partner near our mill for ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 hot-dip galvanizing, typically 2–3 days, already counted inside your production window.

A diamond steel grating surface means an even walking plane — a closed raised-pattern sheet, or flat bars in an open panel. We quote both from the same drawing set, so the choice follows your duty, not our stock list.

Where Each Diamond Reading Earns Its Place
The honest rule has not changed since the checker plate page: specify a closed or tight deck when something must stay on it, and an open panel when something must fall through it. These are the duties that pull buyers toward one reading or the other.
Floors above occupied space
Mezzanines and storage decks over work areas — solid diamond tread plate keeps small parts and spill solids on the deck instead of raining through the mesh.
Ramps, docks & vehicle beds
Loading ramps, dock plates and truck beds — a continuous raised-pattern surface where wheels meet the deck and nothing should drop through.
Wet areas — use open mesh
Where water must drain, a closed diamond deck fights you. Our trench grating and welded open mesh lines are the right answer — we will say so in the quote.
Pedestrian decks — close mesh
When the diamond-opening idea is really about foot comfort and small-object containment, close-mesh square layouts get you there while staying open to drainage.
