Offshore duty is a corrosion question before it is a load question. Sea spray, salt fog and daily washdown attack steel and zinc at very different rates, so the exposure zone — not the price — should pick the panel. Here is the honest comparison.

Elevated offshore walkways catch wind, and sealed decks hold standing water. Open grating lets both pass straight through — no ponding on the walking surface, less sail area on the structure, and nothing pooling against the fixings.

Serrated teeth on the bearing bars are the geometry that gives a wet, spray-washed deck its grip — specified as a design goal, not a test claim. Plain bars stay standard where trolleys or cradle rails roll across the walk.

3 · Finish matched to the exposure zone

Galvanized panels go to a certified galvanizing partner near our mill for ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 hot-dip galvanizing — typically 2–3 days, inside your production window. For splash zones, SS316 panels skip the coating question entirely.

What is the lead time for offshore grating?

Samples ship in 5–7 working days and mass production runs 15–25 working days after drawing confirmation, both including hot-dip galvanizing. Rush production in 10–15 days is possible with a surcharge — ask in your quote.

Should offshore grating be SS316 or hot-dip galvanized steel?

It depends on the exposure zone. SS316 is the safer specification for splash zones and daily washdown, where chlorides attack a zinc coating fastest. Hot-dip galvanized Q235B is the economical route for protected, atmospheric zones under a maintenance plan — both carry an MTC to EN 10204 Type 3.1.

Do you hold offshore class society approvals?

No standing offshore class approvals are held — they are assessed and quoted per project. Tell us the approval regime your project works under and we will confirm what we can support before you order; MTC EN 10204 3.1, a factory inspection report and a Declaration of Conformity ship with every consignment.
