The quick spec

Grate Walkway, Grating Walkway — Same Panel

You asked for a metal grate walkway; the drawings and standards will call it walkway grating. It is the same thing — a steel walkway built as an open-mesh panel you can walk on all day, drain rain through, and see light through. Three questions settle the spec, whatever word you use for it:

01 · Span by duty

How heavy is the traffic?

Occasional inspection access runs lighter bearing bars on closer supports; daily foot and trolley routes step up the bar. Our range runs from 20×3 mm to 100×8 mm — the heavier the duty, the deeper the bar or the closer the supports. Load tables come with your quote.

02 · Mesh by debris

What must fall through?

30 / 40 / 60 mm centers let rain, grit and swarf drop straight through the walkway — the default for plant routes. Where small parts, tools or heels are in play, press-locked close mesh goes down to 11 / 11 mm openings while still draining.

03 · Finish by exposure

Where does it sit?

Dry indoor routes can run black steel. Outdoor and roof walkways get hot-dip galvanizing to ASTM A123 / ISO 1461. Washdown, chemical and coastal routes move to SS304 / SS316 — same geometry, corrosion-duty material.

The Three Formats Behind a Grate Walkway

Answer those three questions and one of three panel formats fits. Here they are side by side — with an honest note on which lines run in our own workshop.

How a grate walkway panel is made

From Bearing Bars to a Walkway You Can Trust

bearing bars cross bars forged joints

1 · Forged to your route

Bearing bars and cross bars are cut to your walkway module, then every intersection is pressure-forged in one pass — a single solid panel with no joints that can work loose under daily traffic.

cross bars serrated teeth on the bearing bar

2 · Serrated or plain surface

Serrated teeth on the bearing bars are the geometry that gives a wet or oily walkway its grip — specified as a design goal, not a test claim. Plain bars stay standard where trolleys roll along the route.

bearing bars cross bars band bar closes the edge

3 · Banded, finished, dispatched

Panel ends are banded to your drawings, outdoor routes go to a certified galvanizing partner for ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 hot-dip galvanizing — typically 2–3 days, already counted inside your production window — then export-packed.

Why specify a grate walkway

Why Plants Order Their Metal Walkway From One Factory

Safe, load-rated for daily traffic

One-piece panels spread foot, trolley and point loads across the full walkway — specify by span, not by guesswork. Load tables are provided with your quote.

Non-slip by geometry

Serrated or plain bearing bars — serration is the standard grate walkway option wherever rain, snow or oil meets the route, and the open mesh lets both drain straight through the panel.

Custom sizes — bulk or trial

Grate walkway panels cut and banded to your drawings, from bulk plant programs down to small trial orders, factory-direct FOB Tianjin with an MTC EN 10204 3.1 on every batch.

Where grate walkways run

Walkway Routes a Metal Grate Walkway Covers

A metal walkway in open-mesh form is a route you never have to squeegee: water leaves, light passes, and the steel underneath stays visible for inspection.

Plant access walkways

Daily maintenance routes between lines — spills and wash water drain through instead of pooling on the path.

Catwalks & elevated routes

Lightweight open panels over equipment — light and air keep moving in the level below the walkway.

Roof & outdoor walkways

Hot-dip galvanized panels shed rain and snow off the route — service paths that never trap water or hide the roof surface.

Washdown & corrosive routes

SS304 / SS316 walkway panels for food, chemical and marine areas that rinse their floors daily.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the lead time for a metal grate walkway?

Samples ship in 5–7 working days and mass production runs 15–25 working days after drawing confirmation, both including hot-dip galvanizing. Rush production in 10–15 days is possible with a surcharge — ask in your quote.

Can I buy grate walkway panels in bulk and small lots?

Yes — small trial orders are welcome and bulk grate walkway orders are quoted per loading plan, so you only pay for the steel you ship.

How is a metal grate walkway shipped and priced?

Shipped worldwide from Tianjin Port — FOB Tianjin as standard, EXW or CIF negotiable. Pricing is itemized per m² or per ton in your quote; we do not publish a fixed price list.
