Q235B vs SS304 vs SS316 — Which Alloy for Your Walkway Mesh?

Every alloy walkway mesh order starts with one decision: the steel alloy that matches the duty and the environment. The mesh geometry stays the same — the alloy decides how the panel fights corrosion for the next decade.

Mild steel walkway mesh — the honest default

Most "alloy walkway mesh" enquiries are really mild steel walkway mesh: Q235B carbon steel, hot-dip galvanized after fabrication. It carries the same loads as stainless at a lower alloy cost, and the zinc coating handles ordinary outdoor duty. It is our highest-volume walkway material — see the Q235 material page or the galvanized walkway mesh page.

Not an aluminium line — an honest note

"Alloy" here means steel alloys: Q235B mild steel and SS304/SS316 stainless. We do not run an aluminium grating line, so we will not quote one — if your specification calls for a non-ferrous mesh, we would rather tell you honestly than substitute. For corrosive duty where buyers often expect aluminium, stainless walkway mesh is the line we actually build.

Not sure which alloy your environment needs? Send your walkway loads and site conditions — we will pick the alloy inside the 24-hour quote.

Mesh formats

How Alloy Walkway Mesh Is Built

bearing bars cross bars forged joints

1 · Welded mesh walkway panels

Electro-forged on our in-house line: every bearing-bar and cross-bar intersection pressure-welded in one pass. The default walkway mesh format at 30/40/60 mm centers, plain or serrated.

close mesh, bars interlocked

2 · Close mesh where heels cross

On our press-lock machine, cross bars interlock with notched bearing bars down to 11/11 mm openings — no heat, perfectly flat panels for walkways where small footwear crosses the mesh.

3 · Finish by alloy

Q235B panels go to a certified galvanizing partner for ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 hot-dip galvanizing — 2–3 days, already inside your production window. Stainless needs no coating and finishes as welded.

Swage-locked and other locked-bar formats are assessed per project on our press line — stated honestly in your quote. Press-locked grating details →

Why specify alloy mesh

Why Plant Buyers Specify Alloy Walkway Mesh from Dengtai

Safe, load-rated for daily plant traffic

Bearing bars sized to your span and traffic — foot, trolley or light wheels. Load tables for your panel geometry are provided with the quote, so the walkway is rated, not guessed.

Serrated or plain — non-slip by geometry

Anti-slip performance comes from the surface you choose: serrated teeth for wet or oily walkways, plain bars where smooth rolling matters. Same mesh, same alloy, either surface.

Custom sizes, bulk from one factory

Buy alloy walkway mesh in bulk or start with a small trial order — every panel is cut and banded to your drawings, FOB Tianjin, with free drawing review inside the 24-hour quote.

Applications

Where Alloy Walkway Mesh Works

Open mesh that sheds water, ice and debris under daily foot traffic — with the alloy matched to whatever the environment throws at the walkway.

Plant walkways & platforms

Galvanized Q235B mesh for maintenance access around machines — the everyday alloy.

Catwalks & mezzanines

Elevated runs where open mesh keeps weight down and light, sightlines and drainage up.

Washdown & wet floors

SS304 mesh walkways for food and beverage plants hosed down daily.

Coastal & offshore access

SS316 alloy walkway mesh where salt spray would strip a coating in years.

Materials & test documents

Every heat of Q235B, SS304 or SS316 enters production with its mill test certificate verified at goods-in — the first of our five QC stages. Your alloy walkway mesh leaves with documentation, not promises:

  • Mill test certificates (EN 10204 Type 3.1) naming your alloy, per batch
  • Factory inspection report with every shipment
  • Declaration of Conformity prepared per order destination

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Which alloy do I need for walkway mesh — Q235B, SS304 or SS316?

Q235B mild steel with hot-dip galvanizing covers most plant walkways and outdoor platforms. SS304 suits washdown areas and constantly wet floors; SS316 adds molybdenum for coastal salt spray and chemical chlorides. All three run on the same bar and mesh range, so the alloy choice is about environment, not strength.

Do you supply aluminium walkway mesh?

No. Our lines are steel alloys only — Q235B mild steel and SS304/SS316 stainless. We do not run an aluminium grating line, so we will not quote one; if your specification calls for a non-ferrous mesh we say so honestly rather than substitute.

What is the lead time, MOQ and shipping for alloy walkway mesh?

Samples ship in 5–7 working days and mass production runs 15–25 working days after drawing confirmation, hot-dip galvanizing included. Small trial orders are welcome. Panels ship worldwide from Tianjin Port, FOB Tianjin as standard with EXW or CIF negotiable — pricing is itemized in your quote.
